Thank you for choosing to fundraise for Surf City! We know the idea of fundraising can be off-putting for a lot of people. It's easier than you think -- and we very much want to help you meet your goals!
Ready? Let's get started!
Here's how it works:
First, you pay an upfront registration fee of just $30. From there, you are responsible for collecting donations by the day of the ride which total at least $250. (And we will be thrilled if you go beyond that $250 minimum!) To keep you inspired, we will offer up cool prizes to help you meet those fundraising goals!
To register online, click here.
After registering, you can create a Fundraising Home Page. This will allow you to manage all your fundraising needs in one easy-to-use place. You will be given a personal link like this:http://surfcityaidsride.dojiggy.com/nealsavage to include in your emails, or to post on your Facebook page. You can also click here to download a traditional paper fundraiser form.
A few guiding suggestions when you create your home page:
- Include a photo of yourself: Find a picture of you laughing, cycling, dressed up in training gear; make people want to give to your cause.
- Tell your personal story: Share the reason why you chose to ride in this event, how long you have been cycling/training, or what the Surf City Ride means to you and/or your community.
- Fire off and e-mail blast: Send an e-mail message to friends and family about your fundraising page.
- Don't forget about Facebook/Twitter/MySpace: send updates about the commitment you have made to ride. Forward to everyone you know! Include the link to your home page.
- Update regularly: Keep your personal fundraising page current with goals so your supporters stay interested and informed. Remember -- They're rooting for you!
Bailout Option:
We have every confidence in the world that you will reach the $250 minimum by the day of the ride, October 3rd. BUT… in the unlikely event that you do not, all we ask is that the money you bring in equals the flat rate registration fees: $60 for the 30 mile route or $90 for the 60 and 100 mile routes.
Remember -- Every mile you ride and every dollar you raise helps the Santa Cruz AIDS Project maintain vital community services in place!!
Having trouble using this site to register? Fear not! We are on-hand to help.

Fundraising Tips:
Follow these 6 simple steps:
Step One -- Set your goal.
Set an ambitious -- but not impossible to reach -- fundraising goal. Tell everyone what it is! Your friends and family will want to help you reach it.
Step Two -- Make a list of everyone you know!
Jot down names of friends, family, co-workers, old classmates, social networking contacts (from Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.) distant relatives, businesses you frequent, people you haven't seen in a while. Don't leave anyone out! You may find yourself surprised at who responds to your fundraising request.
Step Three -- Make your pitch -- and make it good!
Tell your potential donor what you are doing and why it is important to you. Choose the method that you know will work best for the particular donor -- a letter, an email, a telephone call, a Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter posting, or an in-person conversation. A second, follow-up correspondence is a good idea, as many people who will donate need a friendly reminder.
Step Four -- Collect your donations.
Donors can make donations by credit card online through your home page, or pay by check made out to The Santa Cruz AIDS Project. You can either mail the checks you receive to the Santa Cruz AIDS Project (PO Box 557, Santa Cruz, CA 95061) or bring them with you the day of the Ride. If you mail your checks in, be sure to make a notation of your name in the comment line of the check (i.e. "for Surf City Rider John/Jane Doe") so we can be sure to give you credit for the donation you brought in. Please don't mail us cash -- it is better to write out a check and send that in instead. All donations are tax-deductible.
Step Five -- Thank your donors!
It's always a good idea to promptly thank your donors for their contributions. You may also want to contact them after the Surf City Ride to let them know how much you raised overall.
Step Six -- Have a great ride!!
You deserve it -- you've brought in needed money for a great cause!
